The 2023 ACM CIKM Test of Time Award was assigned to the paper:
“TAGME: on-the-fly annotation of short text fragments (by Wikipedia entities)”
that I co-authored with Ugo Scaiella and published in ACM CIKM 2010. As stated on the web page of the award: “The Test of Time Award is given to CIKM papers published at least ten years ago and that have had an important and sustained impact on the research community.”
We warmly thank the CIKM ToT committee for the precious Award, which unfortunately we could not receive in person, thus missing the marvelous banquet at the Aston Villa Football Club grounds in Birmingham (UK), on Tuesday 24th October.
For anyone interested, TagMe and several other entity-linking tools we developed in the last 13 years are available here in the SoBigData Research Infrastructure.
I cannot conclude this post without thanking the many brilliant students who contributed to developing these tools (in alphabetical order): Lorenzo Bellomo, Marco Cornolti, Antonio Di Maria, Francesco Piccinno, Marco Ponza, Roberto Santoro, Daniele Vitale and, of course, Ugo Scaiella with whom I started to investigate long time ago algorithmic problems on #knowledgegraph, before Google’s KG was out;-)
